Natures Moments That Inspire My Floral Abstract Style

Natures moments that inspire my floral abstract style_blog post

There’s something powerful about stepping outside, breathing in fresh air, and letting the world slow down just long enough for inspiration to find you. My floral abstract style isn’t something that comes only from the studio - it’s shaped by the small, quiet moments I collect while moving through nature. Every walk, every wild bloom, every shifting sky becomes part of the story behind my art.

In this post, I want to share the experiences that influence my work the most - moments spent exploring with my dogs and the peaceful escapes we take on our caravan holidays.

Walks With My Dogs: My Daily Dose of Inspiration

Some of my best ideas begin on simple walks with my dogs. These walks are more than routine - they’re my time to observe, reflect, and absorb the beauty around me.

As the dogs sniff and wander happily, I slow down enough to really notice the details:

  • the curve of a petal catching the morning light

  • the unexpected mix of colours in a patch of wildflowers

  • the texture of eucalyptus bark peeling away

  • the soft movement of leaves in a gentle breeze

These tiny, often overlooked details settle into my mind and later emerge on the canvas as expressive marks, soft shapes, or colour combinations that feel organic and alive.

Nature shows me that beauty doesn’t have to be perfect to stand out - it just has to be felt. And that’s something I aim to reflect in every piece I create.

Caravan Holidays: Resetting My Mind and Refreshing My Creativity

Our caravan holidays offer a deeper kind of inspiration - one that comes from fully stepping away from day-to-day life and immersing myself in new, peaceful environments.

Whether we’re parked near the coast, tucked into a bushland campsite, or exploring quiet country towns, these trips open up space in my mind. The slow pace, the fresh landscapes, and the constant connection to the outdoors help me reconnect with creativity in a really natural way.

On these trips, I often find myself drawn to:

  • coastal colour palettes of soft blues, sandy neutrals, and warm coral tones

  • native wildflowers growing freely along walking tracks

  • the golden glow of late-afternoon light

  • the rich greens and warm reds of Australian landscapes

Even when I’m not painting, I’m collecting colours, moods, and textures - filling my creative well so that when I return to the studio, the ideas flow effortlessly.

Translating Nature Into Art

When I finally return to the canvas, these moments come back in an abstract, expressive way. I don’t paint flowers exactly as they appear in nature - I translate how they feel.

A walk through a field might turn into sweeping, energetic brushstrokes.

A quiet caravan morning might inspire calm, muted colours.

Sitting quietly in a flower garden might inspire a kaleidoscope of colour on the canvas.

A cluster of wildflowers might become layered, textured blooms full of movement.

My aim is always to capture the emotional essence of nature, not just the visual form.

The Heart Behind My Floral Abstract Style

My art is deeply connected to my life outdoors - the freedom of open space, the calm of slow mornings, and the joy of watching my dogs explore the world without hurry. These simple moments continually remind me to stay present, observe closely, and create from the heart.

If my paintings can bring even a small feeling of that peace and beauty into someone’s home, then I’ve shared a piece of those moments with the world.

Thank you for joining me as I explore the nature-inspired inner inspiration of my work.
I can’t wait to share more of the stories behind my paintings with you.
