About
Hello I'm Amber,
Where do I start... well I'm a dog mumma, exercise and wellness nut, coffee table book addict and caravan exploring adventurer.
I paint colourful uplifting art (love going large) that is inspired by my love of getting my butt off the couch and heading outdoors and exploring in nature. I truly believe spending as much time as we can being outside in nature is a big key to our health and wellness. We are not on this earth to work, work, work behind a computer!
Painting has brought me into an inner peace and love for the simpler things in life. Choosing what brings you joy first, then fitting in the rest. 'Easier said than done' in a money hungry, bill draining, keeping up with the Jones society. Just make sure to be true to you and your own path.
I hope you love what you see and can find some form of joy and happiness through my art!
What I care about
I love connecting with nature when I paint and the soft flowing organic shapes and brushwork allows me to feel that natural energy and rawness.
I am definitely drawn to the bohemian way of living and thinking and my art imitates this colour loving, free spirit and soul searching path.
Painting nature is a form of meditation for me, it takes me into a world of being present, feeling joy and contentment. Something that the outside world can often take away from me. My art studio is my own sanctuary, where my inner passion and my true self comes alive. It is also when my very 'chatty' mind can just stop and be still. Painting is a form of peaceful meditation that I definitely need. Calming that go go go, endless to do list that rolls around in my brain every day.
I want my art to connect with you, as it does with me, and help bring you happiness in this free spirited adventure that we call life. Become the dreamer, build a happy and fulfilling life, be content on being who you truly are. Don’t feel ashamed of your quirkiness or differences. We are all unique and on different journeys, that to me is what needs to be celebrated and loved, if my art can remind you of this, then I am ‘over the moon’ happy! x
My Story
After I completed a Bachelor of Visual Communication at the University of South Australia, I spent 7 years traveling the world. Living a care free backpacker life, having fun, exploring different cultures and seeing the most amazing wonders that this world has. It really is so eye opening to travel, I think we should all experience this in our lives.
Coming home I worked in a few stressful high paced computer careers. Not sure how I can go from backpacking to this, but that is what happened lol. So here I was pursuing the hectic Graphic Design world and also a stressful Investment Banking world.
Funnily enough I still had the urge to destress and relax and this came in the form of painting after work. I soon realised this was my calling and who I needed to be. I needed the simpler, quiet world for my hectic mind.
So I set myself the goal of becoming a full time artist and 2 years later in 2019 I had achieved this. My perfectionism, hard work and 'I wont fail' side helping this transition quickly.
I am now painting full time in my studio with my gorgeous puppy dogs by my side. Painting is my way of expressing all my positive emotions and bringing calm to my world. I feel so grateful that I can do this as my career and fill your beautiful homes around the world with artworks that bring you similar emotions.
Techniques
Gaining a degree in Visual Communications it gave me an understanding of colour, composition, positive and negative space, contrast and harmony. These visual elements are all subconsciously being thought through as I work on a canvas. Stepping back a lot from the canvas, to view as I go, and making the changes necessary to give it that right balance.
I paint quite quickly as I love the freedom and feel of the flowing brushstrokes. Allowing for a technique of intuitive representation on the canvas. I love not quite knowing where and how my painting will end up.
I predominantly use high quality acrylic paints applied with brushes and will use a UV resistant varnish to protect the artwork at the end of the process.
I love exploring different colour palettes in my artwork. The combinations are endless. I gain inspiration from colours I see in nature and how they work together in beautiful harmony. I also find that I am drawn to colours I can recall from past memories of my travels. Colour is definitely something I notice in my everyday.
Painting large is also something I love to do. I find small canvases quite restricting and it is the freedom of movement and flow that I can get form a bigger canvas. Plus the impact is pretty darn special! You want a 'WOW' factor? Then definitely go large for that statement piece!
