TROPICAL COAST COLLECTION
This beautiful art collection has come about through my love of being anywhere tropical and anywhere by the water. When someone mentions the word 'holiday' I instantly want to go to a warm tropical coastal town as my first preference, I want to be by the ocean.
I have always found that there is something so calming for me to be near water. I remember in my early twenties, on the night right before I was about to leave Australia to head to London. I was busy packing my 'old' life in boxes and packing my 'new' life in a small backpack. Frantically packing and stressing, with my mind racing, something made me stop, and I got in my car and drove straight to the beach. Here I was, about to travel overseas by myself, for the first time ever, and not knowing when I would be coming home again. I had so many emotions going on at that point in my head. Was it the wrong thing to do, was it a great thing to do, what about leaving my family and friends behind, what the hell was I doing!!
Yet as soon as I stood on the soft white sand and watched the sun set over the ocean for one last time in Australia, I felt something shift. I wasn't sure what lay ahead, and I knew deep down it would be years before I would come back home, and yes that was terrifying. Yet being on that beach that night, it gave me that inner calm and peace that I needed. I realised then, that I was about to head off on the most amazing adventure of my life and it was all going to be ok. This is certainly a moment I still remember so clearly today and yes I ended up having an incredible, eye opening 7 years of travelling the world.
What I have found in my more recent years of travelling is that I also love rainforest regions and that relaxed tropical way of life. People seem happier and more relaxed in these environments and I like that. Oh and have you ever been deep inside a rainforest where all you can hear are the birds chirping, the leaves swaying in the light wind, you can even hear the drops of water tinkling down the leaves. The feel of the cool fresh air over your skin, with glimmers of warm sun coming through the gaps in the trees branches. That feeling is a one of a kind, that you certainly can't get from being in 'suburbia'. The air feels so clean and fresh and it makes me feel so alive and so happy.
Putting these two natural elements and landscapes that bring me so much joy into my paintings is pure love. With so many wonderful memories encompassed within these artworks, they come together with a sense of wanting others to feel that calm and pure joy from viewing these pieces.
